About the practice

Hugo Rodas, CCC-SLP, and Patil Malatian, CCC-SLP, are a married couple who were both raised in Los Angeles and met in graduate school. They bring a local, personal perspective to care and value time with family, travel, the beach, and the cultural diversity of the communities they serve.

Clients often contact the practice after an acquired brain injury, such as stroke or traumatic brain injury, or with progressive neurologic or respiratory conditions that affect thinking, speaking, voice, breathing, or swallowing. Concerns may also relate to head and neck cancer and other changes that reduce everyday communication or safe oral intake.

Ideal client fit

The practice is a strong fit for motivated clients who are ready to participate consistently in care. Home exercise programs and educational handouts may be provided, and patients and families are expected to follow recommendations consistently to support meaningful progress.

First visit and scheduling

Availability is Monday through Thursday, with same day responses to new inquiries when possible. Evaluations and treatment visits are 45 minutes, with 15 additional minutes reserved for documentation.

For swallowing concerns, please have samples of the patient's usual foods and drinks available at the first visit. For brain processing or speech concerns, the first session may include an approximately 40 minute assessment covering attention, memory, problem solving and reasoning, respiration, speech, language, and or voice. A copy of the contract will be emailed and must be completed and returned before the first visit is scheduled.

In person services are available within select areas that are fully or partially reachable within about 15 miles driving from Sunland. Addresses outside that area can still inquire for more details.
